Myrtle Fire Heart Spirit Doll for the Wombats at Goongarah Wombat Orphanage.

During these horrendous fires in Australia some not far from our home, we have heard incredible stories of the wombats shepherding smaller animals into their complex burrow systems. I created Myrtle to raise money for the orphaned wombats and those rescued from the fires. She is filled with leaves and herbs from the forest and was completed at the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. She is a Fire Guardian created to help keep the elements in balance. She is a fierce protector of the animals and the forest beings. Her dress is woven from fibre woven with pure silk and her hair is woven from alpaca wool. Over her heart is a piece of resin from the Acacia tree near my home in the forest that the magpies sing in. She has leaves of myrtle gathered in the forest in her hair.

Nettle and Wormwood Guardian Plant Spirit Doll for the Koalas

I created the Nettle Guardian plant spirit doll just after the full moon lunar eclipse to help raise money for the animals orphaned during the bushfires here in Australia some not far to our home in the forest. She is filled with the ancient and magical herb Wormwood gathered on the dark Moon and her hair is woven from a plant fibre called ramie from the Nettle family. She also has a guardianship sigil woven in nettles on the front of her dress. She is a connected to the element of fire and change and rebirth and brings balance and harmony. She was made by hand with love in our forest home.

The Weaver of Fairy Pools Spirit Doll for the Firefighters of Kallista/The Patch CFA.

The Weaver holds flowers of heather that I picked near the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye in Scotland inside her body and is woven from wool and tweed that I gathered from wool workers and makers in the Hebrides in October. Over her solar plexus is a ceramic button that I purchased in Edinburgh decorated with a tiny wren. I am donated 50% of the funds from her sale today to the local firefighters in our forest who are constantly on guard protecting the wildlife and our homes. When they are not working here in our forest they are travelling to help the firefighters working to contain the fires in East Gippsland. Truly courageous men and women who are volunteers and place their lives on the line each day. Thank you for helping me to donate to the people who are literally protecting our home at the moment and even when we are not in these high fire danger days. The Weaver is a magical being celebrating the work of community - may she bring magic and healing from the Isles of Skye and Lewis to her new keeper.

The Yew Tree Faerie Bee Pollen Spirit Doll

The Yew Tree Faerie is a Bee Pollen spirit doll filled with the leaves of the sacred Yew Tree often planted in graveyards and at the entrance to temples and churches. The Yew Tree is linked to the Ancestral realm and the mysteries of life death and rebirth. I gathered the Yew Tree leaves and dried them out over the time of a pilgrimage to Scotland and Cornwall and when I returned I created this doll. She is a much taller and larger doll than my usual dolls. She carries the spirit of adventure and crossing thresholds, journeys into the unknown that bring colour and magic back into our lives. She holds a bundle of yew tree leaves, bee pollen and lavender inside her body and She wears a long golden cloak made from recycled pure wool blankets dyed naturally with plants and eucalyptus at a gathering of women and children. She was made by hand before and after a journey to Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. A place of wild protection of the plants and animals. May she bring her keeper the blessings of the yew tree, the bees and the wild faeries.

Faerie Horse Rider Bee Pollen Spirit Doll

The Faerie Horse Rider is a spirit doll dressed in wool from the Viking Isle of Gotland in Sweden. She wears a magical Horse Blanket as a shawl that was made from recycled pure wool blankets dyed naturally with plants and eucalyptus at a gathering of women and children. It is adorned with a star woven in silk. Her hair is woven from alpaca and silk fibre and she is filled with bee pollen and lavender. She is another attendant to the wild horses, a faerie rider and friend to the horse families. She was made by hand during the build up to a wild storm in our forest home.

The Deer Rider Faerie Spirit Doll

The Deer Rider is a Faerie elemental spirit doll dressed in wool from the Viking Isle of Gotland in Sweden. She wears the antlers of her family the Deer and around her neck is an amulet of pearls, bells and amethysts. I created this amulet after a wild storm had passed through the forest and lightning had created a fire. Luckily through swift action the fire was put out. I thought about the forest helpers as I created this amulet of protection and beauty. Her hair is black and woven with rainbows created with wool that I gathered from local wool working spinners and weavers on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. In her belly Bee Pollen and lavender are wrapped together in a tight bundle. May she bring many blessings of the forest, home and protection to her keeper. She was made by hand with love in our home in Sherbrooke Forest.

The Dark Horse Shadow Oak Spirit Doll

The Dark Horse is a shadow spirit doll created to be with her keeper in times when they are needed assistance and help. I see her as an Attendant to the Wild Horses. She is filled with Oak Acorns and leaves and her hair is black but woven with rainbows and was purchased on the Isle of Skye in Scotland from local weavers and spinners. She wears a large crochet shawl that can also be a blanket and totally cover her when she needs quiet and peace. She was made by hand with love in our forest home.

She wears the antlers of her family, the Deer in her hair and was birthed after being shown a Lemurian crystal by the keepers of the waterfall in Cornwall that had been placed in the waterfall 50 years before to maintain and take care of the Mary Line a leyline running from Glastonbury to Cornwall. In a ceremony dedicated to the faeries a rainbow appeared inside the crystal the next day. May she bring many blessings to her keeper. The Seer Highland Heather Spirit Doll

The Seer is a Highland Heather plant spirit doll created from heather gathered at the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye and wrapped in wool soaked in the Holy Loch and in the dew at the Fairy Glen. She is a Seer, she has one eye that sees beyond the mundane. She is also a shapeshifter, wearing antlers and becoming ‘other’ when she needs to. Her hair is black and woven with the colours of the rainbow. She was made by hand with love in the Isle of Skye and our home in Sherbrooke Forest.

Iona - Sacred Isle Deer Spirit Doll

Iona is the Sacred Isle Deer Spirit Doll named for the piece of Iona Marble stone gathered by a local Scottish family from the Isle of Iona. This small island is a holy place and the Deer has travelled from the Highlands to the Hebrides and to many sacred places. She is a Pilgrim, a Traveller seeking the sacred. Her dress is made from wool dyed naturally with the ancient dye plant Madder and her hair is woven from wool from the Shetland Isles. She wears the antlers of her family the Deer. She was made by hand with love in the Highlands and carries heather in her heart and completed in our home in Sherbrooke Forest.

The Crow Shadow Plant Spirit Doll

The Crow Shadow spirit doll was created just after the new moon when the sky in the forest is still dark. She is a shadow companion, a light in the dark and comfort when her keeper is waiting for the dawn. She has the feathers of the family the Crows in her hair and a protective claw over her heart. She is the one to help find the path when it is lost and can give comfort in the time of waiting. Her hair is also woven from alpaca and her dress is made from wool from the sacred Viking isle of Gotland and in Sweden. She is filled with raspberry leaves inside her belly for healing and comfort. She was made by hand with love in the forest.

The Hebridean - Sea Flower Fossil, Isle of Lewis Plant Spirit Doll

The second Hebridean sister was also created on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland not far from the Callanish standing stones. She is filled with local herbs and a drop of water gathered on the island. Over her heart she has a magical symbol and sigil created from a circular ancient sea flower fossil woven with blue wool to make a cross through it. She wears a cape made from a scrap of pure handwoven tweed created on the island. She was made by hand with love both in Scotland and Australia. May she bring her keeper magical assistance.

Raspberry Leaf Deer Spirit Doll

The Deer spirit doll holds a medicine bundle filled with dried raspberry leaves known in herbal medicine to be balance and tone female reproductive organs. The raspberry plant is linked in folklore to Venus, the Moon and pregnancy and birth. Her dress is woven from wool from the Viking isle of Gotland in Sweden and her hair is woven from wool from the Shetland Isles in Scotland. Around her neck are vintage red beads - a symbol of fertility and the matriarchal blood lines. She wears the antlers of her animal family the Deer and she holds a sprig of Wattle growing now in the forest as a symbol of Spring. She was made by hand in the forest with love.

Indigo - Secrets of the Waterfall Doll

I created Indigo - Secrets of the Waterfall as I contemplated the magic and healing that occurs when we stand beneath and within the waterfall and feel the bubbles of air as they move through the rushing water over stones. Her dress is adorned with glass ‘bubbles’ the essence of air as it moves through water. The magic crystal ball ‘bubbles’ are encircled with wool dyed naturally with the ancient dye plant Indigo as are the small markings on her face. Her long curly hair is also dyed with indigo as is her shawl. She is filled with the magical herb Yarrow used to assist healing. She was completed on Friday the 13th at the Full Moon and she was made by hand in the forest with love.

The Indigo Spirit Medium Doll

The Indigo Spirit Medium Doll holds a medicine bundle inside her body filled with plants and herbs gathered near our forest home. She has markings on her face created with wool dyed naturally with the ancient plant dye indigo. Her long curly hair is also dyed with indigo and her dress and shawl are woven from wool that I purchased from an elder wool worker who lives on her farm and tie dyes her wool in the most beautiful colours. Over her heart she wears a quartz crystal in 3 points and over her third eye is a beautiful crystal that I have held waiting for just the right doll - I feel like the crystal of her heart and third eye help her to channel the messages that she needs and help her keeper to receive and communicate with guides and ancestors. She is a spirit medium and channeller and my wish is that she can help her keeper to access and develop these natural abilities too. A guide for her new keeper. The Indigo Doe is a spirit doll is filled with a medicine bundle inside her body holding the leaves of an Oak tree that grows in the forest. She wears the antlers of her Deer family and on her face she wears little markings made in wool dyed with Indigo. Her long curly hair and dress are also dyed naturally with the ancient dye plant Indigo. She wears three magical crystals : an amethyst over her heart, a long wand of citrine and smokey quartz over her solar plexus and belly and a piece of Baltic amber gifted to us from Poland over her third eye. Around her shoulders is hand dyed shawl of silk. She is a tall doll and I believe her to be a teacher and protector. A guide for her new keeper. She was made by hand in the forest with love.

The Heart Stone Lemurian Spirit Doll

The Heart Stone Lemurian is a spirit doll is filled with a medicine bundle inside her body holding the ancient healing herb Yarrow connected to protection and healing and divination. Over her heart is a very magical crystal, a pink Lemurian seed crystal that was gifted to me at a gathering long ago and holds a very special clarity and energy. It reminds me of the clarity of the eye of the heart and of the gifts we receive through friendship. She is a shapeshifter and has spiralling antlers. Her dress is woven with doll hand dyed by an elder wool worker from bush near Benalla and her long long woollen curls almost touch her feet. She is an Elder of friendship and shares the mysteries of the Lemurian stones. She brings this Lemurian heart stone and all of it’s magic of spirit connection to her new keeper. Her Heart Hears the Sea is a plant spirit doll filled with herbs and flowers gathered in the forest at the dark moon and she was completed at the New Moon in Virgo. Over her heart is a sea shell and fossil found in Hawaii and gifted to me at a gathering in the forest long ago. She feels this shell to be like an instrument when the wind and air pass through it she can hear the sound of the ocean and her home. She is a reminder that we come from the sea and will return. Her dress is woven from ancestral fleece from Finland and dyed naturally and her shawl is woven from softest Alpaca wool. Her hair is braided with a plant fibre made from Seaweed and in her hair are the feathers from emus that live close to us here in the forest. She was made by hand in the forest with love.

The Crow Memory spirit doll is filled with a medicine bundle inside her body holding the ancient healing herb Yarrow connected to protection and healing and divination. Her dress and hair are woven with natural black Finn wool, ancestral wool from Finland. The white in her hair is woven from a plant fibre made from Seaweed and it is a symbol of her wisdom and mirrors the white base of the Crow feathers she wears in her hair. Around her neck she wears memory beads made from coral, each bead holds an ancestral memory, each bead honours what has gone before. The Crow remembers. She was birthed at the approach of the dark moon in the forest. She wears an intricate crown of Amethyst handmade for her by the magical Wednesday Magpie in Devon, England. Her hair is woven from a plant fibre called Ramie from the Nettle family and in her hair are her Reindeer antlers. Her dress is needlefelted from local wool and around her waist is a purple silk velvet ribbon. She wears a shawl of fine gossamer silk fit for a tall and regal faerie queen. Hydrangea and Willow Plant Spirit Doll

The Hyrdrangea and Willow spirit doll was created at the time of the full moon in the forest. She wears loose dried hydrangea flowers in her hair that were gathered from a beautiful garden on top of the mountain. She is a Moon doll guided by the cycles and medicine of the white willow tree, she carries the bark of this tree inside her body. She wears a beautiful vintage crochet cape of flowers with the magical star woven into the centre sent to me by Wednesday Magpie found on her travels in England. The Hydrangea’s dress is woven from tie-dyed wool hand dyed by a Grandmother wool worker who lives far away from the forest on her farm. Once a year I see her at a wool gathering and I make a point to seek her out for her beautifully dyed wool. She was made by hand with love in our forest home.

The Crow Keener is the second of the ‘Bird Women or Bird Girl’ dolls. She wears the feathers of her family and clan the Crows in her hair and over her body. She is a Keener - a woman who can midwife death and grief by singing the songs that bring the tears that create healing, give release and a return to wellness again. She is holds a medicine bundle filled with the ancient healing herb Yarrow connected to protection and healing and divination. She was made by hand with love in our forest home at the full moon.

The Crimson Heart is the third of the ‘Bird Women or Bird Girl’ dolls. She holds the feathers of her family and clan the Crimson Rosella in her hand. She is a doll created to help to open the heart and to receive the healing of colour. She wears a shawl woven from tie-dyed wool hand dyed by a Grandmother wool worker who lives far away from the forest on her farm. Once a year I see her at a wool gathering and I make a point to seek her out for her beautifully dyed wool. She is holds a medicine bundle filled with the bark of the white willow tree. Willow is a plant linked to moon magic and the beauty and blessings of the goddess Venus. She was made by hand with love in our forest home at the full moon.

Bird Girl - Flax Plant Spirit Doll

The Bird Girls are 3 plant medicine sisters who are connected and communicate with birds. The first sister is Flax - her hair is woven with silk and the plant fibre Flax and she is filled with a medicine bundle holding the roots of the Fern. She wears the feathers of the Kookaburra found on the land and has feathers for eyelashes and adornment. The wool of her dress and shawl are from Tasmania. May she bring the language and love for the bird people to her keeper. She was made by hand with love in our forest home on a night after snow fell on the mountain.

The Golden Cape is a White Willow and Eucalyptus Plant Spirit Doll. She holds a medicine bundle filled with the sacred herb White Willow inside her body and her Golden Cape is made from pure wool scraps that were dyed naturally with Eucalyptus leaves by a gathering of women not far from our forest home. The gold is also carried in the crystal she wears in necklace - a talisman for her made of crystal, wooden beads, shells and brass bells. The wool of her dress is from Tasmania and and her hair is woven from ancestral wool from the sacred Viking Isle of Gotland in Sweden. She wears tiny buds of flowers loosely placed in her hair. She is proud and strong. May her dignity be a strength for he new keeper. She was made by hand with love in our forest home on a night when we were waiting for the snow…

Deer Mother and Child - Icelandic Moss & Oak Plant Spirit Dolls

The Deer Mother and Child plant spirit dolls are filled with Icelandic Moss inside the mother’s body and inside the small Child she carries on her back is an Oak Acorn. Both dolls are adorned with amethysts and the Deer Mother wears an unusual quartz over her heart that is clear over her heart and turns red over her solar plexus. Over her body is a large star sigil to guide them on their travels. She also wears the antlers of her family and familiar - the Deer. They are made purely from wool gathered in Tasmania and also from the Shetland Isles in Scotland. Their plants are significant as Mother carries the small mosses that grow close to the earth while her antlers reach for the stars and her tiny baby carries the acorn that will grow into a mighty Oak. The Rose Weaver - Icelandic Moss and Rose Plant Spirit Doll

The Rose Weaver is a plant spirit doll filled with Icelandic Moss gifted to me by a beautiful Icelandic friend. Her silky white hair is woven from a plant fibre made from wild roses. In her hair is an antlered headdress and the antlers are covered in wool from the ancient Viking Isle of Gotland in Sweden. The Rose Weaver wears a hand woven woollen shawl made from scraps of wool that I gathered on the Hebridean Isle of Harris the home of the traditional wool weavers. This plant spirit doll is a bridge between the Celtic and Viking Isles and the history that weaves the islands and their people together. This ancestral doll was made by hand with love in our forest home at the Dark Moon.

Star of the Sea - Indigo Plant Spirit Doll

I completed the Indigo plant spirit doll, Star of the Sea, after returning home after scattering my father’s ashes by the ocean. Her dress, shawl and hair are all woven from pure Australian wool dyed with the ancient dye plant Indigo. Over her body is a channeled sigil connected her to the sea and the moon and ancestral wisdom of the womens mysteries. She wears a necklace of tiny golden beads around her neck. She feels very nurturing and strong at the same time. I wish her to be a strong guardian to her keeper. A reminder that like the tides we grow and change, we rise and fall, and we all return to the Great Mother. May she bring a gentle strength to her keeper. Woodland Wizard Stag Spirit Doll

The Woodland Wizard is a Stag spirit doll filled with jasmine flowers. He wears the antlers of his spirit family the Deer in his hair and a talisman made from the tips of an antler woven into the braid of his beard. His beard is woven from the ancestral and ancient breed of wool from the Hungarian Racka. He is dressed in wool the colour of moss and earthy tones and he wears a cape of faux fur. He is a guardian and friend for the deer and stag that he loves and follows in the forest. May he be a wise guardian and teacher for his new keeper. He was made in the time of the Eclipse and is a spirit doll for transformation, growth and deep grounding in the earth. He was made by hand with love in our forest home.

The Weaver of Lewis Plant Spirit Doll

Sometimes the smallest dolls carry the most magic. The Weaver of Lewis is one of those. I created The Weaver to be a journeyer - a doll to travel with you. She is full-bodies with moveable arms and legs and wears a dress and cape made from hand woven woollen tweed that I gathered in the Isles of Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland last year. She has hair woven from pure wool that I purchased from grandmother weavers and spinners here in Australia. She is a magical helper, a familiar - one to walk beside you - perhaps carried in a pocket or in your bag. A little friend to give you wise counsel. She was completed at the New Moon in Taurus after a time of great change - she is the next step - the Weaver. The Weaver knows how to make anew, how to blend and connect to the past and future at the same time - always in conversation with her ancestor weavers. She was made by hand with love in our forest home.

The Hebridean Witches - Grandmother Moon Altar Doll

The Hebridean Witches are two Grandmother dolls that began on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. They both wear hand knitted witches’ bonnets lovingly made for them by a dear friend’s mother in Italy. Grandmother Moon is a Crone Altar Doll one of the new larger dolls that have come forward after I returned home from Scotland. She is an Altar Doll to hold space not only for her keeper but also for a larger group - perhaps a women’s mystery circle or healing space. She is the Crone and her hair and dress are woven from 2 different types of local wool that I gathered on the Isle of Skye. She wears a handmade ceramic pendant in the shape of the full moon around her neck of the moon, the mountains and the forest that was also gifted for the dolls by an artist. On her dress is a needlefelted sigil that is a star map made of a symbol for the crossroads over a spiral of hand spun wool spun on a spinning wheel by a friend. In this way she reminds me of Hecate the guardian of midwives, witches and women on their journey to the crossroads. I imagine her to be like a huge beam of moonlight for those that need to trust to take the next step forward - a way-shower, a light on the path. She was created to inspire trust and wisdom and the gift of receiving. There are so many parts to her that were given as gifts and now she is ready to bring those gifts to her keeper. The Hebridean Witches - Granny Magpie Talisman Doll

The Hebridean Witches are two Grandmother dolls that began on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. They both wear hand knitted witches’ bonnets lovingly made for them by a dear friend’s mother in Italy. Granny Magpie was completed at Samhain here in Sherbrooke Forest / Beltane in the North when the veil is thinnest and the ancestors are listening. She is the gatherer and forager and her Familiar is the Magpie - she has beautiful secret Magpie feather hidden in her hair. A perfect balance of black and white. She wears a necklace that I created for her to wear as her magical talisman holding a pearl to represent the light of the moon and brass bells to let the faeries know when she is gathering. She is a larger personal doll created from local wool that I gathered on the Isle of Skye and some near Fort William in Scotand. I imagine her to be like a magical Granny Witch from the Isle of Skye, an elder helper to remind her keeper that you can find everything you need because you carry it within. She was made by hand with love in our forest home.

Isle of Skye Altar Doll - Ancestral Plant Spirit

The Isle of Skye spirit doll was created to be an ‘altar doll’ to hold space and if twice the size of my other dolls. She is very large and holds an oak acorn in a medicine bundle in her belly. Her dress is made from raw and local wool that I gathered on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. She was inspired by the Fairy Glen on the Isle of Skye where the natural formations of rocks and dells look like a castle and village made in perfect perspective for faeries. She wears an ancient ammonite, a fossil from the sea to represent the spiral in the base of the Fairy Dell. She wears the antlers of her animal familiar - the Deer. I have created this large doll to accompany her keeper by holding space on a private altar or to be holding space for a larger group - perhaps a healing circle or workshop. She is filled with joy and light. She was created as a bridge to the otherworld, to the faeries and to the ancestors. The Viking Doll of the Shetland Isles is a larger spirit doll and is more Elfling than human. She was a surprise as I worked with the fibres of the wild Shetland Isles. I was surprised that she began to look and feel like a Viking and after researching I was amazed to find the very long history of Vikings in the Shetlands - of course the dolls knew all along! Her hair is woven from a plant fibre made from wild roses and is incredible soft, catching the light in the sun. Upon finding out that she is a Viking I began to create a hand beaded necklace for her of quartz crystal, wooden beads and brass bells. The Forest Tree Resin plant spirit doll was created after the return home to our forest from pilgrimage to faraway lands. It is my honouring of home and union between traveling to ancestral lands and back again. She is filled with the resin of the huge Mountain Ash Trees that grow in Sherbrooke Forest around our home in this lush rainforest. She is adorned with 3D needle felted flowers - she carries her own Garden with her - where ever she goes she is home. Her dress is pure wool dyed with walnuts from the Shetland Isles of Scotland and her hair is woven from silk that I gathered in Tasmania. Sybylla the Red Fox is a plant spirit doll that is filled with the blood red resin of the Mountain Ash Tree - these are the tallest flowering trees in the world and are the giants that surround our forest home. The Amazonite Crystal Plant spirit doll is a doll that told me she is the ‘Doll Doctor’ - she brings healing medicine. She is a healer and wears the ancient crystal Amazonite over her heart to help her keeper. The Maple Tree Faerie Plant spirit doll was a doll that woven herself into being over a 3 month period. She began before we left the forest to travel to Scotland and holds a medicine bundle of herbs and flowers inside her body. When I returned home again she tapped me on the shoulder to remind me that she was ready to be worked on again and she was finally completed at the most recent New Moon in Sagittarius. She reminds me of Sagittarius too. Full of life and wonder and passion, fast moving and yet solid in herself. She is a doll that has patience and resilience and will help her keeper with this too. She is a full bodied doll with moveable and bendable arms and legs. Her Faerie wings are feathers of the Crimson Rosella that I have found on my walks near our home in Sherbrooke Forest. Recently there was a wild storm in the forest and the next morning I found these seeds of the Maple Tree had come loose. They are her antennae and the strong Maple tree is part of her family. She can weather storm and renew and birth herself again. Over her heart she wears a rare orange Kyanite crystal - a stone that helps us to not pick up the energy of others particularly in difficult circumstances - she helps you to come back to the centre - to yourself. The Hazel Moon is one of the Well Maidens, Isle of Skye Water spirit dolls that began on the banks of an ancient healing loch called Loch Sheanta (Loch Saint or the Holy Loch) and spring on the Isle of Skye on our recent pilgrimage to Scotland. After I swam in this ancient healing loch I gathered water to take home to place one drop each in the heart of the dolls. Before I swam I walked through the Hazel copse that encircled it. This type of small Hazel wood is very rare on the island and the healing pool is fed by 2 of the purest springs at each end that flow into an electric turquoise and emerald pool. The bottom of the pool is lined with silver minerals that make it shimmer and sparkle. Hazel is a tree linked through centuries of folklore to the faeries, witches and druids and also known as the Tree of Wisdom. I felt very much that the Hazel copse was keeping or watching over this ancient spring. I imagined these trees as women, well maidens and began to create a series of dolls that each hold a drop of water from the spring inside their bodies. Hazel Moon is the first of these Well Maidens and her crimson and black dress and shawl are woven with silk through wool and her hair is made from the plant fibre, Ramie which is a part of the Nettle family. Around her neck she wears a crescent moon made from mother of pearl on a thread of Japanese silk. She is the ‘night keeper’ of the spring and grove. Augury is the ancient practice of interpreting omens by the flight paths of birds. The Sacred Pilgrimage Mother and Child spirit dolls are filled herbs and flowers gathered near our home in Sherbrooke Forest. They are dedicated to the spirit of pilgrimage, sacred journeys and ancestral star maps that call to us. The Mother has antlers made from eucalyptus branches and her hair is woven from Ramie a plant fibre from the Nettle family. Both dolls wear clear quartz crystal talismans and were made by hand with love at the time of the Winter Solstice here in the forest. The Cresecent Moon Faerie is a Nettle and Indigo plant spirit doll began last month when I was gifted wool dyed naturally by Victoria Larnach the mermaid with blue hands with the ancient plant dye Indigo. I took this sky blue wool home and created symbols and sigils from it to adorn the body of this Nettle Faerie: crescent moon, heart and leaves. The Hagstone Indigo Sprite is a Nettle plant spirit doll. Last month at Spirit Weavers Gathering I was gifted wool dyed naturally by Victoria Larnach the mermaid with blue hands with the ancient plant dye Indigo. Star-Crossed is an Icelandic Moss Spirit Doll was completed at the Winter Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest and began with a meeting with an Icelandic friend at Spirit Weavers Gathering in Oregon last month. She is filled with the most amazing Icelandic Moss that is so strong it looks like seaweed. She wears the antlers of her family the Deer and she is dressed in Icelandic fibres inspired by the colours of the Northern Lights. Over her heart is a resin cabochon filled with moss created for us by Alice Savage from her home in Italy. This doll is full of love and friendship. The Seer - Joshua Tree is a Desert Sage Pant Spirit Doll. She was completed at the Winter Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest and began with a meeting with friend at Spirit Weavers Gathering in Oregon last month who gifted me leaves of sage gathered from the Joshua Tree Desert. She wears a cape and headdress of crocheted Japanese silk in the colour of sage and her dress is needlefelted from pure wool fibres woven with pieces of linen. Over her face she wears a mask of snakeskin that is luminescent and gifted from a friend - snakeskin naturally shed from her familiar. Over her body and threaded through the wool of her dress is a piece of blue Kyanite from Australia, a stone that helps us to stay in our own energy even when around a lot of people. Leaf, Water and Stone is a Wizard plant spirit doll created in the coldest months of Autumn here in Sherbrooke Forest when the leaves turn red and gold. He is filled with tiny quartz crystal pebbles gathered on a beach in Tasmania. His tunic is woven from Navajo Churro wool woven with Agave Cactus fibres and his shawl is from ancestral sheep in Scotland and dyed naturally with plants. The Heart of the Forest is a Nettle, Sage and Acacia resin plant spirit doll. Inside her body is a medicine bundle filled with Sage grown with love and intention by a dear friend. Over her heart she has a beautiful 'flower' of Wattle Acacia resin that I gathered from a wattle tree close to our home in the forest. It glows gold in the sunlight and is surrounded by wattle flowers. Beneath the Acacia resin is a quartz crystal cabochon. Her hair is woven from a plant fibre called Ramie from the Nettle family. She is elemental being of the forest, closely linked to many different plants and plant spirits. The Sage and Nettle plant spirit doll is needlefelted from pure and local wool to our home in Sherbrooke Forest. She is filled with leaves of Sage a plant known for cleansing and healing and connection to the ancestral realm. Over her face The Sage wears ceremonial markings made from Nettle plant fibres and Nettle also surrounds the large smokey quartz crystal she wears over her body as a protective and guiding stone familiar. Her hair is woven from wool blended with fibre of the Bison and around her shoulders she wears raw fleece of the Alpaca. The Mandrake and Nettle plant spirit doll was created just after the Equinox here in the forest. She is needlefelted from pure wool fibres woven with plant fibres made from Nettles. The Nettle fibre makes a woven spiral over her womb with a large agate geode crystal cave in the centre. She also has face markings made from nettle fibres. Inside her belly is a medicine bundle holding Mandrake root. Her antlers are red and are the connection to her lineage as well as antennae to communicate with ancestors. Her shawl is made of wool from the ancestral Soay sheep from the Isle of St Kilda in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. She is a large doll and feels very loving and protective, a strong plant spirit. I created her deep in the night when many makers and creators are working - the spindle like plant a reminder of the ancestral wool work of our Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers. Her fibres were gathered in Tasmania and are pure Australian wool woven with red silk. Her hair is the colour of her ally and teacher the beautiful Blackbird that sings it's song in the liminal times of Dawn and Dusk - on the edge of darkness. She holds a medicine bundle filled with the ancient and magical herb, Yarrow, and she is woven from Scottish wool we gathered in Fort Wiilliam in the Highlands and dyed in the colours of the rainbow. Her hair is the colour of her ally and teacher the Wild Fox. She wears a quartz crystal over her heart and garnet over her third eye. In her hand is the feather of the King Parrot gathered on our walks in Sherbrooke Forest. She was made by hand with love.

The Nettle Serpent and Deer plant spirit doll was completed just before the Full Blue Blood Moon on the eve of Lughnasadh here in the forest - the midpoint between the Sumer Solstice and the Autumn Equinox. She holds a medicine bundle filled with blood red Mountain Ash resin inside her body combined with wildflowers gathered in the forest at the Solstice. She is needlefelted from Scottish wool dyed with the ancient dye plant Madder. Over her dress is a Serpent created from Nettle fibres reaching up to the Cosmic Egg found in a nest of Moss over her heart. On her head she wears the Antlers of the Deer - an antennae to communicate with the Cosmos. She was made by hand with love.

The Star Grandmother Nettle and Pearl plant spirit doll was completed in the first week of the new year. She is a Grandmother spirit created to help her keeper to be grounded in the Earth while at the same time be open and receptive to messages from the Stars. She is needlefelted from raw and pure Australian woollen fibres.  Over her womb, inside a spiral woven with Nettle fibres is a Pearl that I gathered on my recent journey to Tasmania. She wear pussy willows as a crown in her hair gathered by the ocean. She holds the plant spirit of the Nettle and blood red resin of the Mountain Ash trees in a medicine bundle inside her body.  She was made by hand with love.

The Caring Heart plant spirit doll began at the Solstice just before the new year when we gathered flowers in the forest. Her medicine bundle was prepared on New Years Eve and she was completed at the New Moon in January. Her hair is braided from pure wool woven with fibre from the Bison. Even though she is small, she carries the heart of the Bison and her huge heart is the gift for her new keeper. She has come to watch over and care, to bring love and support and ears to listen, eyes to see. I created her to be a caring and loving companion to the one that needs her. Her dress is adorned with blades of grass and her golden dress and shawl are woven from fibres from the Viking lands of Norway, Iceland, Sweden and the Faroe Islands. She was made by hand in the forest with love.

The Bramble, Nettle and Woad plant spirit Wizard was completed on the Eve of the Summer Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest. He is woven from wild and raw fleeces gathered by my father in Tasmania and his tunic is made from Flemish fibres dyed naturally with the ancient dye plant Woad, sacred to the Celts for body adornment and painting. Over his tunic is a sigil - Circle in the Triangle woven from fibres made from the Nettle plant. His beard and hair hold seeds and plants he gathers from sleeping wild in the hedgerows and brambles. Inside his belly is a medicine bundle of Oak leaves and Heather gathered by myself along the banks of Loch Lomond in the Highlands of Scotland last year. He is a hardy and wild spirit birthed at Solstice, a magical Wizard familiar with the healing nature of plants. She is a young plant spirit created to help her keeper to open her heart and step into the sunlight. She is woven from raw and pure Australian fibres and her hair is braided with black Alpaca wool.  Over her heart she wears a moonstone crystal surrounded by wool dyed naturally with plants and woven with the fibres of the Agave Cactus. Just before the Solstice I found an old doll maker's sewing box at a local charity shop here in the forest and inside it was this handmade porcelain Rose that she wears in her hair. The Nettle Bride Solstice spirit doll is Married to HerSelf. She was completed on the Eve of the Summer Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest and holds the balance of light and dark. Her dress is the night sky and her hair and headdress are the Sun. She is comfortable in both worlds and her crown of flowers in her hair are native to Australia and called Everlastings. She is married to her own spirit to create a bond of everlasting love with herself before she shares her love with another. Over her dress is a Star Sigil woven in Nettle fibres this is her way of always find her the path home to herself. In her hand she carries a staff made from a Poppy also gathered by myself recently in Tasmania. Her hair is made from Scottish wool dyed with ancient and sacred dye plant called Rose Madder - a plant so ancient it was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Her midnight hair is braided with fine black Alpaca fibres. She carries the wisdom, medicine and spirit of the Star Ancestors and has a star made of Nettles adorning her dress. Around her neck she wears a Star talisman handmade from Dichroic Glass - a layering of glass and metal to create an image of her home, the Cosmos. In her hair she wears midnight blue glass beads. The Solar Plant spirit doll was created in the week leading up to the Summer Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest, Australia. She is filled with a medicine bundle of both native Australian plants and resins and also the leaves of the Yew tree. She is woven from Icelandic fibres and her hair is braided with ancestral Jacob fleece from the Highlands of Scotland. Over her heart and solar plexus is a glass bead holding the light and creating the light. Her hair is adorned with flowers and she wears a clear quartz crystal over her third eye. The Hawthorn Berry and Maple Faerie Godmother was created during the new moon after the dark moon phase of Scorpio. The Antlered Mother and Cub spirit dolls hold medicine bundles inside their bodies filled with leaves from the sacred, magical and protective Yew tree and many tree resins. The antlers she wears are made from branches of the Snake Bark Maple that came down after a storm in the forest and are a link to her animal guide and guardian the Deer. Like the Deer she is sensitive and intuitive and knows the paths through the forest. They communicate with the tree beings and were created at the time of the sap rising at the start of Spring here in Sherbrooke Forest. They are travellers and can move across huge distances. The Dreamers Plant Mother is connected to all the small flowers in the forest that are making themselves known at the start of Spring. She is the Dreamer, she dreams the plants before they are seen above the grown. She is a gardener and tends to the plants and to their dreams too. She wears a beautiful quartz crystal with many points over her heart as a way to communicate with the stars. She wears the feathers of the Australian budgerigar in her hair and has feathers for eyelashes. She is a member of the faerie worlds and can shift between fae, human and plant. She is a Seer and can help to bring clear dreaming and trust in what will grow in the future.  She is filled with the flowers of Daphne and plants gathered in Sherbrooke Forest. May she bring blessings of growth and strength and new blossoming to her new keeper.

Spring St John's Wort Spirit Doll

Spring St John's Wort spirit doll is adorned with blossoms appearing in the forest in the week before the arrival of Spring. She is filled with the sacred and healing herb St John's Wort a herb known to lift the spirits and assist with depression and anxiety. She is dressed in rare fibres dyed naturally with walnuts. Her hair is made from beautiful raw fleece gathered by hand by my father in Tasmania in the winter. She is a proud and strong doll, a guardian and herald of bright things to come, of movement and growth on the horizon. May she bring blessings of growth and strength and new blossoming to her new keeper.

Opal Deer Spirit Doll

The Opal Deer spirit doll is adorned with opals and a fossilised shark tooth. Her dress and hair are woven with silk and she is filled with herbs and flowers gathered in Sherbrooke Forest. She has silver antlers of her animal ally and spirit the Deer and the ancient memory of the oceans held in the fossil tooth over her womb. She was made by hand with love at the time of Eclipse season here in Sherbrooke Forest, Australia. Her message and medicine is of beauty and protection. The Deer and Shark are both animal allies that use sensitivity and intuition to find the way and read the signs. May she bring blessings of intuition and ancient knowing to her new keeper.

Sister Indigo Plant Spirit Doll

Sister Indigo is a plant spirit doll created from needlefelted fibres dyed naturally with the ancient plant dye Indigo. She wears a cape and trimmings on her dress of pure wool Tweed that we gathered from the Isle of Harris in the Hebrides of Scotland in October last years. She wears a crown of Citrine crystal and over her heart a crystal point of Smokey Quartz. She is a doll to help integration and weaving of new ideas to create balance. She wears antlers and is part of the Faerie world she shifts between human and animal and plant spirit. On her face are Indigo markings perhaps a symbol of growth and initiation. She was made by hand with love at the time of the Winter Solstice here in Sherbrooke Forest, Australia. She is a merging of ancient plant ways in a modern time wearing a shawl woven in the present with ancient Scottish techniques. Blending the old and the new.

Madder Rose Faerie Spirit Doll

The Madder Rose Faerie doll is close to my heart. She has been on quite a journey with me over this Eclipse season of learning about healing, rest, boundaries and the power to say 'no'. Perhaps these are teachings that you are in need of and if so, I couldn't recommend a more magical companion than Madder Rose. She is a Scottish doll - filled with herbs that we gathered on our journey through the Isle of Skye in October last year and wearing Scottish fleece from head to toe from the ancient Soay sheep. I love that she looks as though she has been chewing at the Madder Rose plant too. Madder Rose is an ancient dye plant well known as one of the key colours of the medieval period. This ancient dye plant brings such a vibrancy to the doll and she became the spirit of the plant itself.  Around her neck she wears a sacred medicine necklace created personally for us by a sister who creates ceremonial pieces made in prayer. This necklace seems to also mirror the red and bronze tones of the Madder Rose dye plant. Madder Rose was created in the Eclipse season here in Sherbrooke Forest as we await the birth of Spring. May she be a magical teacher for you.

Pearl and Garnet Faerie Spirit Doll

The Pearl and Garnet plant spirit doll is filled with the sacred herb Vervain known as 'the enchanter's herb'. She is woven from wool we have gathered on our travels in the Highlands of Scotland and adorned with spirals of hand coloured silk at the centre of the 2 spirals are 2 labradorite crystals. She wears a magical Garnet over her third eye and her hair is made from a rare and luxurious fibre created from biodegradable cellulose fibre infused with precious Pearl powder that contains natural amino acids. The Pearl fibre is so soft that as you touch her hair the fibre softens and moisturises your hands. She wears the spiral of life over her body as a shield and portal. She was made by hand with love here in Sherbrooke Forest, Australia in the month before Spring and in the middle of the Eclipse Season - a doll to help us remember the luminous light in the dark and precious gifts of the Earth and the Sea.

The spirit doll is an ancient being, familiar and beloved to many cultures around the world. Making a spirit doll is engaging in the art of healing and enchantment – to weave life and love into a creation by making something solely by hand with materials from nature. By engaging in these ancestral crafts we weave a bridge back to our own great grandmothers who I believe send blessings to us and to the doll herself before she travels on to do her work with those who need her. I am passionate about embracing and honouring these folk magic handcrafts of our grandmothers that have been forgotten or worse still, been misunderstood. 

I believe my grandmothers brought this craft back to me so that I could live in the forest away from the city and continue to do healing work with people without carrying the heaviness of issues they are dealing with afterwards. Unfortunately I learnt this the hard way after experiencing exhaustion in my city practice - I kept seeing people receive the most beautiful visions of their spirits during healing sessions but they were unable to hold onto this vision afterwards. I saw that they needed to have something tangible and real, something physical to hold to remind them of how powerful and magical they truly are. Especially to hold through times of loss and fear. The doll came to me in a dream 13 years before but it wasn't until I moved to the forest 4 years ago that I sat with a friend one day to be shown how to needle felt a doll. Something huge unlocked inside me that day and within hours I was creating dolls non-stop. It was as if my hands remembered this craft so well and were so happy! I could feel my grandmothers guiding and teaching me about fleece and fibre, how to include plants that assisted with healing and where to find them in the forest.

As the time went on and I settled into my new forest home, I was creating a doll every day. And I began to notice a new theme turning up in my work with the spirit doll. Not only was I focussing on the person who I was creating for, I began to become aware of the stories of forgotten women and children in history and environments that were carrying the memory of traumatic events that took place there. I began to create dolls for the living and the dead. The strongest stories for me were of the women and children incarcerated within the Magdalene Laundries and I began by creating and leaving a doll at the old site of the laundry near my home in Melbourne, Australia to be a comfort for the spirits who may still be feeling pain there. I travelled to Ireland and left dolls for the women of the Magdalene Laundry in Dublin. I then met with survivors and created dolls for the living too. I have been called to create and leave dolls at the sites of persecution of women as healers and witches in Scotland and to gift dolls to a pauper's graveyard in London known as a the Cross Bones Graveyard.

The balance of dolls for the living and the dead seems to be the way that I give back for my spiritual inheritance. Another way is to leave dolls in nature, in the forest - sometimes as gifts to the trees and sometimes with a note to let people know that if they find this doll she is theirs - she is a free gift to them. Sometimes when people find the dolls in nature they ring me and ask if they can really keep her? I assure them that she is for them and they can't believe it - but this teaching and lesson of giving for nothing is a very important part of the teaching of the doll. Whenever I feel lacking or worried I will create one of these 'free' dolls and give her away and not long after I am aware of the lightening of my own load and strange, beautiful gifts turning up for me too.

You see something very magical happens for the doll maker. In the act of creating a spirit doll for another, we can't help but travel down that rabbit-hole like Alice in Wonderland - we cannot help but dive into the depths of our own heart. I believe that this is an important process in making spirit dolls, we also get to 'make' and heal ourselves. A kind of 'collective shadow work'. You cannot help but go inward with hand made work, there are long long hours and much repetitive movement. Like our grandmothers many moons ago caught up in the repetition of a needle going into thread, or a spinning wheel forever turning, we begin to enter a kind of dreaming-awake state. In the act of making slowly and by hand, you begin to step into a liminal space between time and hear the voice of your own spirit – the dreamer within the dream. 

The spirit doll can be a mirror or a bridge to a powerful part of yourself that you might not be able to express. She is a friend and the more time you spend with this friend the more you love them. Perhaps you begin to tell the doll secrets that you hold in your heart and cannot share with others. The doll lives with you daily - through good times and bad - the doll is always accepting. And then a funny thing happens, you begin to feel the living spirit in this doll and how much love it has for you. You then recognise this love as part of your own spirit and that love for the doll begins to flow back from her to you. You see that you are also a magical, beautiful and creative being. You begin to heal yourself.
